Web Page Design
Web page design requires some thought and planning. What will your pages be about? The home page is normally an introduction to your site. Your about page would be a portrayal of your organization. Do you want to list your name, address, telephone number, and email on your contacts page? Many sites list email as the only contact. For a business site, consider including your name, street address, email, and telephone numbers. Make it easy for visitors to contact you.
Layout and appearance is usually the starting point when designing a web page. There are many different schemes that can be used for the layout. One good rule of thumb is to keep it as simple as possible. Provide information-rich content along with an easy to follow navigation system for your web site visitors. Use web standards formatting that is compatible with as many browsers as possible.
Writing Page Copy "Copywriting"
Writing page copy is the meat and potatoes of designing web pages. If you intend to write your own page copy, be concise and to the point. The text on web pages should be relevant not only for your human visitors but for search engine programs as well.
Before adding content to a page, determine the topic of that particular page. If the page is a commercial product listing, the product is the topic of the page. Page content should be specific to the topic. Try to keep all of the content for a particular topic on one page.
Product description, specifications, pictures, prices, applications, and delivery methods are examples of a product page content. Before designing the first web page, estimate the number of pages needed for the entire site. Break it down into categories and subcategories.
Make a Plan for the Content
What is the intended format of the page? If commercial, outline the products and/or services to be offered including methods of description. What topics should be covered? How many pictures and other graphics will be needed? It may be helpful to make an outline or sketch with a pencil and paper.
Custom Layout or Template
We offer custom layouts or you can select from pre-made web page templates. Custom designing will cost more and take longer to produce than a pre-made template. Custom pages will typically be more search-engine-friendly so custom pages should be considered.
Pictures and Graphics
Do you have pictures? Traditional photographs of better quality can be used. If you don't have pictures, you can either hire a pro or do it yourself. A 35mm camera or a digital camera will do the job. There's no rocket science involved in getting good pics for your pages. With a little practice, anyone can make great pics for the web.
A digital camera is recommended because it's convenient to work with. Most digital pictures are edited and compressed to the smallest file size for use on the web. We edit the pictures as necessary as we are designing individual pages. We include graphics designing for your pages. If you have a logo, we can digitize it for the web.
Never use somebody else's pictures without permission because you may infringe copyrights and/or trademarks.
To get started designing your web site, we need your information. This includes written text, pictures, contacts, products, etc. If the web site is commercial, try to provide all the information for particular products and services at one time. This will speed up the process of designing the individual pages and expedite completion of your project.
